hey everyone, I am getting totally confused over my data visualization.
Action script is killing me to death,I have visualization in my mind but is unable to apply it visually.

I dont know what to do,this is just not working Graphic designer + code = totally sucks
After even trying hundred of times, I just not able to write the code according to my need.

And after all this crying I am looking into info graphics.

(Static)

(Animated)

and this is really making sense to me, but just want to confirm that, can i do something like this as my project. Is this interactive? I mean I know this is interactive but interactive in sense of (user).

Do give me a opinion.

So finally I am working on DATA Visualisation.

Will make data visualization using flash and action script.
Using database of information I collected and then visualising it in a new form.

By basic thoughts of visualizing the information is based on the following precedents.

There will be the map that will be the first page of interaction

and then will show the data in form of trees, clouds(polluted/oxygen).

some more are there which I will upload after working on the project more.

These are the steps I will be following

1. Collection of data.
2. Figure out the use of database in flash.
3. Finalize the illustrations for the final project and try to make them using the data.
4. Decide on the formula to calculate the average information which will be visualized.
5. Give the final look to the visualization.
6. Make a html page to show the information.
Time of decision (from the only two thoughts I have)

1. Was to show data visualisation (states of Ameriaca)

Using the following factors to determine the average amount of oxygen that state is receiveing.
Land area
Forest area
Population
Climatic condition
Altitudes
Pollution.

deriving from above

How green that state is compare to the land area and the population.
How polluted/amount of oxygen the state population is getting.
What is the popuplation.

So On the basis of these information I thought to do a data visualization.

2. The other idea is to make a installment or a fake product which contrast/oppose this

yes the flavoured oxygen!!

This is suppose to be making people more realize the importance of trees rather than going out and buying oxygen cans.

I thought to introduce this which will give people oxygen directly from plant and when the plant
grows bigger, plant it in your backyard/in garden/anywhere and eventually they will not be needed at all.

So these were the two basic ideas I am thinking about to choose from.
The Paper ( writing this made me more think about the project and helped me figuring out the direction.)

In our too busy lives we almost forget to take care of those who are silently taking the care of our lives, without expecting anything in return. So my project revolves around these unnoticed creatures, which we use in almost every form and who are the reason behind our lives
Yes they are Green the color of life, safety, growth, peace and most importantly TREES.

So the main aim of my project is to make people realize the amount of life (the amount of oxygen) each tree gives to every human being or the amount of life you get from one tree.
Which according to my initial research is that two mature trees provide oxygen for four people or in other words give life to four people.

During research I came across uncountable projects and felt that are we so emotionless and careless that in spite of those uncountable projects taking place, we still facing the problem.

And Yes this is what I will try to do through my project will try to solve some .00% of the problem.

My first prototype will be a simple data visualization of (new york city/ world) trees and forest area in comparison to the living human area. As it will give me a bigger picture of the comparison and then I will try to cut it down to more interactive form in my next prototypes.

My first precedent is a project “these come from trees” with the goal of reducing consumer used papers.
In this they stick stickers everywhere where paper towels are used e.g. restaurants, bathrooms, coffee shops.
The most Amazing thing about this project is to reach out the right message at the right time,
And this is what I appreciate in the project that it is simple, strong and affective.

Second precedent is from an interactive Data visualization present on Global Forest watch website, which compares the amount of forest decreased over the period.
And what I liked about this is that it visually tells the user and with that at the same time let user compare the data from the past making them realize the decrease.

Third comes from a virtual sculpture “smoking tree” which deals with the question
What happens when trees are no longer able to turn carbon dioxide into the oxygen we need to breathe?
The polluting process unfolds over a whole day creating an ever-changing tableau, a sculpture in virtual smoke, which presents a disquieting yet strangely plausible possibility. Over time the tree is weakening and producing less smoke. In approx. 200 years the tree will eventually stop producing smoke and fall rendering the work as a landscape from that time on.
And this project is one of my inspiration because it make the viewer think…think about the condition if.., making him realize the importance of what is most important .
The tree.

Public space project

Overview
We were asked to select an outdoor space in which to study and to discover what makes it unique. To create an interactive opportunity for people to gain a new perspective on other participants in the space in which it was executed, we had conducted interviews and spent many hours at different times of the day. We came to the decision to choose the stock exchange, J.P. Morgan and the Federal Hall building.

Problems/opportunities
The challenges that we face after choosing the space were that the people who came to visit there were mainly tourist and where from different parts of the world. That most people came to visit the same place with preconceived notions of what there was to be experienced. When any pictures were taken they have mostly been photographed in the same places as others had. Even taking turns and asking each other to take pictures of one another in those places. The opportunities are that most had been interested in the history in several photographs had been taken throughout its existence.

Precedence / research
We interviewed a policeman about how many people were there throughout the day and into the evening. We have done short videos to document the amount of people utilize the space. We also had physically stayed there over several days and different hours. We research how the stock exchange worked, the Federal Hall building and the J.P. Morgan building history. Though all of it is very interesting. In particular the JP Morgan Car bombing photograph.

Design approach/goals
We decided to use physical activity that already occurs in the space. All people that we witnessed during our initial study lifted their hands up to their faces to take pictures. The approach we took was to ask participants to lift two transparencies of historical photographs at the places where they had been taken originally and register them to the buildings. We used the picture of JP Morgan car bombing of 1920. We liked that the space around where the photograph was taken was underutilized an unvisited. We had desired to create a mechanic in where the people would work as a team, bring the halves of the image together utilizing each other to help register the history over the top of the present to more fully the knowledge the past.

Process
The goal of our first prototypes had been to see if the mechanic of lifting transparencies were of any interest to the general public. There without any historical value and were taken a week before. This had been successful.

We continued without any historical value and used the same image from our previous prototype but we had cut it in half to see if people would put them together. There was interaction with piece though a little bit less.

Our last prototype was constructed with the historical value of the JP Morgan building,
it was about the bomb blast took place in 16, September, 1929.
we printed the bomb blast pic on transparency and went out for test.
Below is the video recorded during test.

Assignment 2

The goal of this assignment was to make a self-portrait of the things that drive, inspire and inform both the aesthetics and content of the work you make.
According to these create a short video that illustrates, demonstrates your passions and follows these design constrains:
20 seconds or shorter, No Sound

For this I tried to be little narrative and symbolized myself as the weaver bird who is creative and perfectionist and loves color, water, adventure and books.
The way video end is exactly what drives my life Satisfaction/Contentment gained from work.
